Polestar isn't the only Volvo tuner out there, and it's about to face some stiff competition from Stuttgart's Heico Sportiv. When I bought a Cayenne a few years ago I weighed it up against the other options. Eventually I was left with a short-list of just two cars – the V8 Cayenne and the Range Rover Sport. But the Range Rover Sport always felt too much of a compromise.
Joe Lencki built a DOHC straight six in 1939 that made an astounding (for the time) 417 hp. The engine was in cars that raced, qualified or tried to qualify at Indianapolis all the way up to 1963. It was an innovative monoblock design that, with those cam covers and cooling fins, looks even cooler now than it probably did 63 years ago.
